Apprenticeship in-school training registrations now open for winter
Wrenford Polytechnic is now accepting applications for the January 2027 intake of apprenticeship in-school training programs. The School of Skilled Trades & Transportation on the Benchlands Campus is ready to welcome students to the Tamarack Building for levels across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, industrial mechanics, and automotive.
Programs and schedules
Apprenticeship training runs in intensive blocks of eight to ten weeks. The January 2027 sessions are scheduled to begin in mid-January 2027, with completion before the spring term starts.
- General Carpenter (Apprenticeship) — TCRA
- Plumber (Apprenticeship) — TPLM
- Construction & Maintenance Electrician (Apprenticeship) — TELA
- Industrial Mechanic Millwright (Apprenticeship) — TMWR
- Automotive Service Technician (Apprenticeship) — TAUA
Tuition and fees
In-school training tuition is $1,190 per level. Ancillary fees are separate at $1,125 per year. Students must pay tuition before the term starts to secure their spot in the shops.
Who can apply
You must be registered with the provincial apprenticeship authority as an apprentice in the relevant trade. Most applicants are already working in the trade and have logged the required hours. The polytechnic does not grant apprenticeship status; you must arrange that through the provincial regulator first.
Students must be 16 or older to work in the shops. Those under 18 need a signed consent form from a parent or guardian.
What to expect
Training is hands-on. Students work in welding bays, machining labs, and simulation bays in the Tamarack Building. Instructors are trade professionals who bring current industry experience into the classroom.
"January is a great time to get your in-school hours done before the spring rush," says Wade Hutchinson, Dean of the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation. "Our students leave with the credentials they need to advance their journeyperson status."
How to apply
Apprenticeship students register directly through Wrenford Polytechnic. They do not use the provincial college application service used for full-time diploma and degree programs.
Applicants should submit their application, proof of apprenticeship registration, and any required consent forms as soon as possible. Seats are limited and fill quickly.
