New funding for Wrenford Kestrels and intramural athletes
The Athletics department at Wrenford Polytechnic has announced a new round of scholarship funding for the 2026–27 academic year. The initiative aims to support student-athletes participating in both varsity competition and recreational sports across the Benchlands and Mercer Street campuses.
The new scholarships are part of a broader effort to increase accessibility to athletic programs and recognize the academic and athletic achievements of students. Funding will be distributed to varsity teams competing in the provincial college athletics conference, as well as to students involved in intramural and club sports.
"We want to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent students from participating in the athletic life of our college," said Sylvie Laframboise, Vice-President, Students. "Whether a student is playing varsity basketball, joining a co-ed curling team, or competing in badminton, their contribution to our community is valuable and deserves recognition."
Eligibility and application
Student-athletes interested in applying for these scholarships must be currently enrolled in a full-time program at Wrenford Polytechnic. Applicants must demonstrate active participation in a varsity or recognized recreational sport and maintain good academic standing.
The application process begins in early September through the Athletics & Recreation office. Students are encouraged to speak with their team coaches or intramural coordinators for guidance on the application requirements.
Supporting campus life
Athletics & Recreation at Wrenford Polytechnic offers a wide range of opportunities for students, including varsity teams such as men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, men's volleyball, co-ed curling, co-ed badminton, and men's and women's soccer. The Kestrel Centre on the Benchlands Campus serves as the home venue for basketball and volleyball, while soccer teams play at Kestrel Field.
The new scholarship opportunities complement existing student services, including the fitness centre, gym sessions, and intramural league registrations. For more information on how to apply or to view the full list of available sports, visit the Athletics & Recreation page.
