Curling club hosts annual inter-college tournament this weekend

Inter-college curling tournament heads to Benchlands

The Benchlands Curling Club is hosting its annual inter-college curling tournament this weekend, bringing together teams from Wrenford Polytechnic and regional colleges for a day of competitive play. The event runs Saturday and Sunday on the club's sheets, just outside the city limits.

The tournament is open to all students, regardless of curling experience. The Wrenford Kestrels varsity co-ed curling team will compete alongside intramural squads and visiting college teams. Matches follow a round-robin format, with the top teams advancing to the medal rounds on Sunday afternoon.

"We are thrilled to host the tournament at the Benchlands Curling Club," said Sylvie Laframboise, Vice-President, Students. "Curling is a great way for students to build teamwork and stay active during the colder months. We encourage everyone to come out and cheer on the Kestrels."

Students who want to play can register their team at the Athletics & Recreation desk in the Kestrel Centre before the event begins. Registration closes at noon on Saturday for any teams that have not yet signed up. Players should bring their own curling brooms; stones and ice shoes are provided by the club.

Spectators are welcome to watch all matches free of charge. The club will have a concession stand open throughout the weekend, and the student-run Campus Store will also set up a pop-up booth in the lobby to sell Kestrels gear and tournament t-shirts.
