Market Square Studios sound stage undergoes acoustic renovation

Renovation work begins at the Mercer Street Campus

The digital media sound stage in the Market Square Studios building is closed to students and faculty starting Monday, January 26, 2026. The space will undergo a full acoustic renovation to improve sound quality and recording conditions for the School of Computing & Academic Studies' digital media programs.

The renovation project includes installing new acoustic paneling, upgrading the sound isolation doors, and replacing the overhead lighting rig with a quieter, more energy-efficient system. The work is expected to last until late February 2026.

The Market Square Studios sound stage is a key facility for the Digital Media & Design program. Students use the space for video production, audio recording, and broadcast projects. The renovation aims to provide a better learning environment for current and future students.

"This renovation is a necessary investment in our students' education," said Theo Marchetti, chair of the Digital Media & Design department. "The current acoustic conditions have not met the standards we need for professional-quality student work. This upgrade will ensure our graduates are prepared for the industry."

During the renovation, students enrolled in digital media courses that require sound stage access will be redirected to alternative spaces. The department will work with instructors to adjust schedules and provide temporary recording setups in other locations on the Mercer Street Campus.

The Market Square Studios building is located at 240 Mercer Street in the City of Wrenford. It is home to the Digital Media & Design studios and a sound stage. The building is part of the Mercer Street Campus, which is the polytechnic's downtown campus.

Students and faculty with questions about the renovation or alternative recording spaces should contact the Digital Media & Design department. More information about the Mercer Street Campus and its facilities is available on the Campuses page.
