Construction Management student Noor secures apprenticeship with major construction firm
Noor, Construction Management, has secured a full-time apprenticeship with a regional builder after completing a co-op work term with the company during her final year.
Noor's journey began when she applied for a co-op placement through the School of Construction & the Environment. The program includes three paid work terms, and Noor used her second placement to gain hands-on experience in site management and cost estimation at the firm.
"The experience was transformative," Noor said. "I was able to apply everything I learned in the classroom to real-world projects. The team treated me like a colleague from day one."
Her supervisor, who asked to remain anonymous, praised Noor's attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project timelines. "Noor demonstrated a level of professionalism and technical skill that is rare for a student," the supervisor said. "We knew immediately we wanted to bring her on board."
The co-op placement allowed Noor to build a professional network, develop practical skills in construction planning, and gain confidence in her ability to lead a team. She will begin her apprenticeship after graduating in December 2025.
Bettina Kraus, Director, Co-op & Career Services, said Noor's success is a testament to the program's strong industry partnerships. "Students who engage with our co-op program gain invaluable experience and often find themselves in a better position to secure employment upon graduation," Kraus said.
Construction Management is a three-year advanced diploma program that combines classroom instruction with practical work terms. Students learn about project management, building codes, sustainability, and construction technology.
Noor plans to continue her education by pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Technology in Construction Management through the college's four-year applied degree program.
