Program Description

Specialized welding codes and procedures for constructing vessels subject to internal pressure.

About this course

Pressure vessel welding demands precision, strict adherence to code, and a deep understanding of material behaviour under stress. In WELD 3340, you will learn the specialized procedures required to construct and repair vessels that hold gases or liquids at internal pressure. This course builds on your foundation in structural welding and inspection, moving into the high-stakes world of industrial fabrication.

You will study international and national codes that govern pressure vessel design and welding. The curriculum covers joint preparation, welding sequence, heat input control, and post-weld heat treatment. Practical labs give you hands-on experience with vertical-up and horizontal welding positions on thick-section materials. You will also practice interpreting engineering drawings and welding procedure specifications (WPS) to ensure every weld meets regulatory standards.

Who takes this course

This course is an elective for students in the Welding & Fabrication Technician program. It is open to other trades and engineering technology students who have completed the required prerequisites and have instructor approval.

Credits: 3 · Hours: 45
