Precision tungsten inert gas welding techniques for thin materials and exotic alloys.
About this course
WELD 3270 Advanced TIG Welding builds on the fundamental skills you developed in earlier welding courses. You will focus on precision techniques required for thin materials and exotic alloys, where heat control is critical. The course is designed for students who already have a solid grasp of basic arc starting and filler metal application.
You will work in the Tamarack Building shops, using advanced TIG setups to join materials that require careful handling. The curriculum covers gas selection, tungsten preparation, and precise bead placement. You will also learn how to inspect your own work for common defects like porosity and lack of fusion.
Who takes this course
This course is an elective in the Welding & Fabrication Technician program. It is open to students in the Electrical & Mechanical Trades department who have completed the required prerequisites. Other students with advanced welding experience may apply for enrollment through the Registrar.
