Program Description

Methodologies for evaluating potential ecological consequences of development projects and proposing mitigation strategies.

About this course

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a critical component of responsible development. In this course, you will learn how to systematically evaluate the potential ecological consequences of projects that affect water resources, wetlands, and aquatic habitats. You will explore the methodologies used to predict and measure environmental changes, and you will develop the skills needed to propose effective mitigation strategies that protect ecosystems while supporting community development.

The course covers the full lifecycle of an impact assessment, from initial screening and scoping to detailed impact analysis and the development of monitoring plans. You will work through real-world case studies, practice conducting field assessments, and learn to prepare professional reports that meet regulatory standards. This course is designed for students in the Environmental Technology program who want to understand how engineering and development projects interact with the natural environment.

Who takes this course

This course is required for students in the Environmental Technology program. It is also available as an elective for students in related environmental and engineering technology programs.
