Program Description
Study of motion and forces in mechanical systems including linkages and gears.
About this course
MECH 2460 Kinematics and Dynamics builds on your knowledge of statics to explore how forces affect moving parts. You will study the motion of rigid bodies, analysing velocity and acceleration in mechanisms like linkages and gears. The course covers both kinematics (geometry of motion) and kinetics (forces causing motion), preparing you to design and evaluate mechanical systems.

Learning outcomes
- Analyse the position, velocity, and acceleration of rigid bodies in planar mechanisms.
- Calculate forces and torques in linkages and gear trains using free-body diagrams.
- Apply kinematic and kinetic principles to simple mechanical systems.
- Evaluate the dynamic performance of mechanical components under load.
