Flexible learning for a high-demand field
The School of Computing & Academic Studies at Wrenford Polytechnic has announced a new hybrid delivery option for the Cybersecurity graduate certificate, effective January 2027. This change responds to feedback from working professionals and students who need a more adaptable schedule while completing their studies.
The new format allows students to attend core theory lectures online while attending mandatory in-person lab sessions on the Benchlands Campus. This approach preserves the hands-on technical training that employers expect, while removing the barrier of daily commuting for those living outside the City of Wrenford.
"We know that many of our students are balancing full-time jobs or family commitments," said Martin Ostrowski, dean of the School of Computing & Academic Studies. "By offering a hybrid path, we are ensuring that the program remains accessible without compromising the practical, lab-based skills that define a Wrenford Polytechnic graduate."
What the hybrid format looks like
Under the new structure, students will complete theoretical coursework through the college's online learning platform. This includes lectures, discussion boards, and written assignments. However, practical components—such as network simulation, penetration testing, and security auditing—will take place in the Kingfisher Building labs on the Benchlands Campus. These sessions will run on weekends or evenings to accommodate working students.
The curriculum remains identical to the existing full-time on-campus version. Graduates will receive the same Ontario College Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity, with no distinction made between the delivery modes on the diploma.
Admissions and next steps
Prospective students can apply for the January 2027 intake through the provincial college application service. The equal consideration date for fall applicants is March 1, 2027, but applications for the winter term are accepted on a rolling basis until capacity is reached.
