Kestrels basketball team breaks scoring record in overtime thriller
Wrenford Poly's men's basketball team set a new single-game scoring record on Wednesday night, finishing with 98 points in a 98-93 overtime victory over their provincial rivals at the Kestrel Centre.
The Wrenford Kestrels, who compete in the provincial college athletics conference, needed the extra period to finally break through a stifling second-half defence. The final buzzer sounded with the Benchlands Campus student section in a frenzy as the team celebrated the historic mark.
"We knew we had to grind out every possession," said Maya, Practical Nursing, who has supported the team since her first year. "Seeing the record fall right here in our gym was incredible."
The victory keeps the Kestrels' hopes alive as they head toward the provincial semi-finals. The team will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup, with the home court advantage at the Kestrel Centre providing a familiar boost.
Coaching staff praised the squad's resilience, noting that the high-scoring affair was a testament to their offensive strategy and the endurance built over the long season.
