Power & Process Engineering faculty publish research on renewable energy
Faculty in the School of Energy & Applied Engineering have published new research exploring sustainable power systems for industrial applications. The study, led by department chair Ingrid Solberg and Power & Process Engineering faculty member Hamid Sadeghi, examines how energy efficiency can be improved across manufacturing and processing facilities.
The research focuses on practical ways industry can reduce energy waste while maintaining production levels. The team analysed data from several local manufacturing sites to identify patterns in energy consumption and propose solutions that are both technically feasible and cost-effective for businesses.
"We wanted to create something that industry professionals could actually use," said Sadeghi. "The findings give plant managers a clear picture of where energy is being lost and how to fix it."
The study covers several key areas, including thermal energy recovery, grid integration for renewable sources, and process optimisation. The researchers worked closely with local industry partners to ensure the results reflect real-world conditions and operational constraints.
Power & Process Engineering is part of the School of Energy & Applied Engineering on the Benchlands Campus. The department offers programs in Power Engineering Technician and Renewable Energy Systems, as well as the graduate certificate in Renewable Energy Systems. Students in these programs gain hands-on experience with the latest energy technologies through labs in the Escarpment Building.
The research is part of a broader effort at Wrenford Polytechnic to support regional industry through applied research and innovation. The college's Research & Innovation office, located in the Kingfisher Building, helps connect faculty expertise with community and industry needs.
