David completes heavy equipment techniques with honours

A top practical result

David, a student in the Heavy Equipment Techniques program at the Benchlands Campus, has graduated with honours. He recorded the highest practical assessment scores in his recent cohort.

The program, offered through the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation, covers the operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy machinery used in construction, mining, and forestry.

Hands-on learning

David spent most of his term in the Tamarack Building shops and outdoor yards. He worked with excavators, bulldozers, and loaders. His instructors noted his careful approach to safety checks and his quick ability to troubleshoot engine issues.

"David has a natural feel for the equipment," said Ricardo Salvatore, chair of the Automotive & Heavy Equipment department. "He listens well, follows procedures precisely, and always puts safety first."

What comes next

David plans to work as a heavy equipment operator for a regional manufacturer or construction firm. He says the program gave him the confidence to work in demanding environments.
