New roles for recent graduates
Four graduates from the Cybersecurity graduate certificate program have accepted positions with the provincial government's information technology division. The new hires will work across several branches, supporting the security of public-sector networks and data systems.
The graduates, who completed the hybrid program in the spring of 2025, began their roles in early March. They will join a team responsible for monitoring threats, managing access controls, and ensuring compliance with provincial privacy laws.
From classroom to critical infrastructure
The graduates will support the security of public-sector networks and data systems. Their work involves monitoring threats, managing access controls, and ensuring compliance with provincial privacy laws.
"Wrenford Polytechnic gave us the practical skills we needed to hit the ground running," says Priya, Cybersecurity. "The labs and the focus on real-world scenarios made the transition to a professional environment much smoother."
Program Chair Anjali Deshmukh noted that the program's curriculum is designed to meet the specific needs of employers in the region. "Our students learn how to protect systems in a hands-on environment," she says. "Seeing our graduates secure roles that protect the province's digital infrastructure is a great validation of their hard work and our program's focus."
A growing field
The hiring marks a strong start for the program's second cohort. The government IT division has cited the program's practical focus on network defence and security protocols as a key factor in its recruitment strategy.
For current students, the news highlights the value of the program's industry connections. The Co-op & Career Services team works closely with employers to connect students with placement opportunities that lead to professional roles.
The new hires will attend an orientation session next week before beginning their assigned shifts. They will be working with senior analysts to help secure the systems that support public services across the province.
