Business students launch mentorship program for local entrepreneurs

Marketing students advise local business owners on digital strategy

Students in the Marketing Management program at Wrenford Polytechnic have launched a new mentorship initiative designed to help local entrepreneurs build their online presence. The program pairs second-year students with small business owners in the City of Wrenford to provide practical advice on digital marketing, social media strategy, and customer engagement.

Launched in May 2026, the mentorship program allows students to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in their Marketing Management courses to real-world business challenges. Participants work one-on-one with business owners to develop tailored digital strategies, create content plans, and analyze market trends.

The initiative was coordinated by Sofia Lindqvist, a faculty member in the Marketing & Communication department at the School of Business & Media. She noted that the program provides students with valuable hands-on experience while supporting the local business community.

"Our students are eager to put their skills to work," said Sofia Lindqvist. "This program gives them the chance to help local entrepreneurs grow their businesses while developing their own professional capabilities."

Early participants in the program have reported positive outcomes. One local business owner noted that the mentorship helped them understand how to better reach their target audience through digital channels. Students have gained experience in client management, strategic planning, and creative problem-solving.

The Marketing Management program is offered at the Mercer Street Campus and includes courses in marketing principles, consumer behaviour, digital media, and strategic planning. Students in the program complete their studies in full-time mode over two years, with intakes available in September and January.

Wrenford Polytechnic's School of Business & Media is committed to providing students with opportunities to connect their academic learning with professional practice. The mentorship program is one of several initiatives designed to foster collaboration between the college and the local community.
