Two members of the Wrenford Polytechnic co-ed badminton team have qualified for the national championships in Ottawa, following a decisive run at the provincial college tournament held last weekend.
The Kestrels advanced through the early rounds with a series of straight-game victories before securing their final spot in the national bracket with a hard-fought win in the semi-finals. The pair will now represent the College at the national championships, competing against the top co-ed doubles teams from colleges across the country.
"It is a huge honour to wear the Wrenford Polytechnic colours on a national stage," said Maya, Practical Nursing. "The team has put in a lot of early morning practice sessions, and it is great to see that work paying off."
Co-ed badminton is one of six varsity sports fielded by the Wrenford Kestrels, the College's athletic programme. The team has been working closely with the athletics office to balance their rigorous academic schedules with high-level competition.
The national championships take place in Ottawa later this spring. The Kestrels are scheduled to play their first matches in the group stage, with the College community encouraged to follow their progress online.
