Tamarack Building welding bays receive safety upgrades

School of Skilled Trades & Transportation upgrades Tamarack Building

Wrenford Polytechnic is completing safety upgrades to the Tamarack Building on the Benchlands Campus. The project focuses on the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation's welding bays, adding new ventilation and air quality systems to improve the learning environment for students.

Improving air quality and safety

The upgrades include advanced local exhaust ventilation units and upgraded filtration systems. These changes are designed to capture welding fumes and particulates at the source, keeping the air clean for everyone in the shop. The college follows strict safety standards for all trades facilities, and these updates bring the Tamarack Building's systems up to the latest specifications.

Students in welding and fabrication programs can continue their classes during the installation. The college has scheduled work in phases to minimise disruption to lab time and shop access. Students are reminded that all safety protocols remain in effect, and instructors will provide guidance on any changes to bay layouts.

A commitment to student safety

"We want every student who walks into the Tamarack Building to feel safe and supported while they learn their trade," said Wade Hutchinson, dean of the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation. "These upgrades are part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best possible training environment for our apprentices and diploma students."

The Tamarack Building is home to the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation, including welding bays, fabrication shops, and classrooms for carpentry and electrical trades students. The building is located on the Benchlands Campus at 1500 Benchlands Drive.

The college plans to publish a timeline for the phased installation work on the School of Skilled Trades & Transportation page next week. Students with questions about lab schedules should contact their program coordinator.
