Kestrels basketball opens season with victory over rival college
The Wrenford Poly men's basketball team opened its 2025–26 campaign with a win on home court at the Kestrel Centre on Benchlands Campus on October 15, 2025. The Kestrels defeated their visiting opponent in front of a lively crowd, setting a positive tone for the season ahead in the provincial college athletics conference.
The game saw strong performances from both sides, but Wrenford Poly's defence held firm in the final quarter. The Kestrels' ability to control the boards and limit second-chance points proved to be the difference maker in a tightly contested matchup.
"The energy in the Kestrel Centre was electric tonight," said a student on the team, Practical Nursing. "We knew this game mattered to start the season, and the crowd really pushed us forward."
Head coach and Athletics department staff praised the team's preparation and discipline. The victory marks a strong start for the Kestrels, who are looking to build on their recent successes, including a trip to the provincial semi-finals last season.
Women's basketball will look to follow up the men's success when they tip off later this season. Both teams are now preparing for their next conference matchups.
