Program Description

Techniques for GMAW welding using shielding gases and consumable electrodes for fabrication.

About this course

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), often called MIG welding, is one of the most widely used welding processes in modern fabrication. In this course, you will learn how to set up the equipment, choose the right shielding gas and filler metal, and produce consistent, high-quality welds on carbon steel. You will practice in the welding bays in the Tamarack Building, working through flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.

The course covers equipment setup, parameter selection, and troubleshooting common defects like porosity and incomplete fusion. You will also learn how to inspect your work against industry standards. This course builds on the fundamentals from WELD 1100 and WELD 1600, so you should already be comfortable with basic safety and welding setup.
