Analysis of separation processes, heat exchange, and reaction engineering in continuous chemical manufacturing.
About this course
Unit Operations I introduces the core engineering principles behind chemical manufacturing. You will study how materials move through separation processes, how heat is managed in industrial exchangers, and how reactions are controlled in continuous systems. The course blends classroom theory with hands-on laboratory work in the Escarpment Building.
Students learn to model standard unit operations using mass and energy balances. You will work in teams to design a small-scale separation train and present your findings to instructors. Safety is a central theme; all laboratory sessions require proper personal protective equipment and adherence to shop rules.
