Program Description

Specialized nursing roles in operating room environments and perioperative patient safety.

About this course

This course examines the specialized nursing roles required in operating room environments, with a strong emphasis on perioperative patient safety. You will explore the perioperative period from admission through discharge, focusing on the unique challenges of surgical care. The curriculum covers preoperative assessment, intraoperative nursing interventions, and postoperative recovery protocols.

You will learn to maintain sterile technique, manage surgical instruments and equipment, and collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team. Patient advocacy and safety checks, such as the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, are integrated throughout the training. Simulation labs provide hands-on experience in managing acute perioperative complications.
