Details scheduled maintenance routines, lubrication systems, and component inspection for heavy machinery.
About this course
Heavy equipment breaks down when maintenance is reactive rather than planned. In this course, you learn how to build and follow structured maintenance routines that keep machinery running safely and efficiently. You will work through the details of scheduled maintenance, focusing on lubrication systems and component inspection for the types of heavy machinery used in construction and mining.
You will practice identifying wear patterns, checking fluid pathways, and documenting your findings in professional reports. The course emphasizes safety, particularly when working with high-pressure systems and heavy lifts. By the end of the term, you should be able to look at a piece of equipment and know exactly what to check, how to check it, and what to do when you find a problem.
Who takes this course
This course is an elective. It is open to students in the Heavy Equipment Techniques program. It may also be taken by students in other trades programs who need credit for equipment maintenance competencies.
