Program Description
Principles and applications of global navigation satellite systems.
Course overview
This course covers the theory and practice of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). You will explore how satellites transmit signals, how receivers calculate position, and how to achieve centimetre-level accuracy in real-world applications. The curriculum focuses on GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou, with an emphasis on error sources and correction methods.

Prerequisites
- GEOM 2220 Geographic Information Systems
- GEOM 2800 Geomatics Software Development
Learning outcomes
- Evaluate the architecture and signal structure of major global navigation satellite systems.
- Calculate position solutions using pseudorange and carrier-phase observations.
- Identify and mitigate sources of error such as ionospheric delay and multipath.
- Implement real-time kinematic (RTK) and post-processing kinematic (PPK) workflows.
- Integrate GNSS data with other sensor systems for high-precision surveying.
