Overview of high-voltage distribution systems, transformers, and switchgear used in industrial settings.
About this course
This course covers the principles of high-voltage distribution systems, transformers, and switchgear used in industrial settings. You will learn how power is delivered from the utility source to heavy machinery and large facilities, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and system reliability.
Who takes this course
ELTR 1320 is an elective for students in the Electrical & Mechanical Trades programs. It is also open to students in the Welding & Fabrication Technician program who are interested in industrial plant maintenance. There are no program-specific prerequisites beyond the core electrical foundations.
Course details
The course includes lectures on power theory and hands-on labs in the Tamarack Building shops. You will work with simulated industrial panels and transformer banks to practice safe installation and troubleshooting techniques.
