Program Description

Advanced techniques in wood and light steel framing for residential and commercial structures.

About this course

Structural Framing Systems builds on the foundational skills you learned in General Carpentry Foundations. In this course, you will master the advanced techniques required to frame both residential and commercial structures using wood and light steel systems. You will move beyond simple assembly to understand the engineering principles that keep buildings standing, including load paths, structural integrity, and material selection.

You will work extensively in the Tamarack Building shops, where you will install load-bearing walls, construct floor systems, and erect roof trusses. The course places a strong emphasis on reading complex blueprints and interpreting engineering specifications, ensuring you can translate design documents into physical structures safely and accurately. Safety and code compliance are woven into every practical exercise.
