Applies advanced troubleshooting methods to complex diesel emission control and injection systems.
About this course
AUTO 3510 Advanced Diesel Diagnostics is designed for students who have completed the foundational diesel engine course and are ready to tackle complex system failures. You will work with modern diesel emission control systems, including diesel particulate filters (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems. The course places a strong emphasis on using diagnostic scan tools and manufacturer-specific software to interpret live data and pinpoint root causes.
Through hands-on lab sessions, you will test high-pressure fuel systems, injectors, and fuel delivery components. You will also learn safe handling procedures for diesel exhaust fluid and other emission-related chemicals. The course is delivered as an elective and does not count toward the core requirements of the Automotive Service Technician (Apprenticeship) program, but it is highly recommended for students in the Motive Power Technician program.
Who takes this course
- Motive Power Technician (elective)
This course is also open to students in the Automotive & Heavy Equipment department who have completed AUTO 1460 Diesel Engine Basics.
Credits: 3 · Hours: 60
