Program Description

Introduction to national and provincial building codes relevant to architectural practice.

Course overview

This course introduces the national and provincial building codes that govern architectural practice. You will learn how to read code documents, identify applicable requirements for different building types, and apply those rules to design problems. The focus is on practical application rather than memorization.

We cover fire and life safety, accessibility, structural performance, and energy efficiency. You will work through case studies that mimic real-world design challenges, learning how to justify design decisions based on code requirements. This knowledge is essential for any architect or technologist working in Ontario.
